“A Little More Than Nothing”

Artist Statement

A Little More Than Nothing explores landscape, memory, and presence through painting, photography, and video. Using only water and two pigments, each work captures unconscious memory and embodied process. Inspired by Swan Bay on Wadawurrung land, the series reflects on ecological fragility and our place between sky, earth, and water. All works are on paper are 560 x 760mm, on 100% cotton paper using granulating watercolour pigment. The collection consists of 18 paintings and 5 sculptures. 

Artist Biography

Since studying visual anthropology in Melbourne, Australia and fine art in Florence, Italy, Samantha has contributed artworks to both group and solo exhibitions. A multi-disciplinary artist, Samantha explores a variety of media to design and produce her creative projects. Her work examines the tension between forces, relational juxtaposition, transference between people and our ecology.

Samantha’s work is held in various private collections both within Australia and internationally, and has been commissioned for workshops, private collections and murals. She currently works as an accredited Psychotherapist in the community mental health sector providing art psychotherapy to improve participants' wellbeing.

She has founded, alongside her private practice, the Studio Art Group supporting artists with complex mental health concerns to develop their personal and professional arts practice.
