Harlow Gallery is delighted to present a rare showing of works taken from an anonymous private collection, showcasing screen printing and lithography from the 1970’s and’80’s. 






List of Artists

Michael Reed

Born in Christchurch in 1950, Michael Reed studies at the University of Canterbury’s School of Fine Art and later tutored in art at Christchurch Polytechnic. Reed’s work was also included in the publication Critical Mass: Printmaking Beyond the Edge by Richard Noyce, UK, a survey of international printmaking. Reed is widely regarded as a classic figure of contemporary printmaking and is known for his experimentation with both traditional and contemporary forms of printmaking.






Keith Howard

Howard studied Art History at Pomona College, Claremont and a Masters in Architecture at the University of Colorado in Denver. His works in both Fine Art and Education are wide reaching, having masterly work with pastel drawing, instillation, and - often exploring abstract drawing and spacial composition. 





Jim Bird

Jim Bird is an iconic figure in British fine art and printmaking. Born in 1937 in Bloxwich UK, he studied at the Walsall School of Art followed by the Wolverhampton College of Art. Later pursuing his career in Spain, he exhibited at the prestigious Galeria Joan Prats gallery in Barcelona. After moving to New York in 1980, he became acquainted with many significant figures of abstract art, most notably Robert Motherwell with whom he exhibited in both Spain and the UK. 







Richard Hook

Richard Hook is best known for printmaking , painting and being a highly respected arts educator. Born in Melbourne 1945, Richard Hook studied at the University of Western Australia and further study later in London. Working as a leading printmaker in etching, lithography and screen printing predominately in the latter part of the 20th Century, he was best known for his bold figurative, nude and gestural abstract works. As well as exhibiting in extensive solo and group exhibitions over his more than 50 year career Richard Hook has had a number of lecturing appointments in Western Australia, Tasmania and New South Wales. His artwork is represented in The Art Gallery of Western Australia Collection. 




John Earle

John Earle is best known for his Seascape/Landscape painting. He was born in Newcastle in 1955, grew up and was educated here. He has been exhibiting his paintings regularly since completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Art (1981). He has recently exhibited paintings and sculptures from his Larri Patience Period alongside his seascape paintings at Cooks Hill Gallery Newcastle. He has had over 30 solo exhibitions in Newcastle, Sydney and Melbourne and has been in many group exhibitions. He has been hung in the Wynne Prize for landscape painting (Art Gallery of NSW) six times. His work is in public and private collections throughout Australia, New Zealand, USA, Europe and Asia-Pacific. In 1994 John established his painting studio in Merewether. It is a place open to the public three afternoons a week with a display of his limited edition reproduction prints, or giclees, ceramics and a look inside his painting room with new work in progress.





Ron Quick

Ron Quick is known as a highly skilled printmaker not only in Australia, but also in UK and the USA, having participated in solo and group exhibitions since the 1970s. He took both his undergraduate and Master of Arts (Fine Arts) degrees in painting, and was awarded for Printmaking at the Manchester Polytechnic, UK. His other mediums include charcoal, pastel, and paint. Aside from being a prominent artist, he is also a highly regarded educator. Quick had a long standing relationship with Deakin University as a Visual Arts lecturer at the Warrnambool campus from 1970-2002. Retired from his teaching career, he now resides in Warrnambool and continues working full time on his artwork.
